Current Ministry
After 2 1/2 years in Cambodia, we decided to move to Kampong Cham City, a provincial capital, about 3 hours bus ride from Phnom Penh. We moved there so Danny could serve as a support to the staff of InnerCHANGE Kompong Cham City (IC KCC). With the departure of Diane Moss to lead an InnerCHANGE team in Romania, there was a need for an InnerCHANGE missionary to be present with the staff to encourage them and assist with their ministries as needed. We whole heartedly endorse IC KCC’s mission statement which is: “To minister holistically to those marginalized by society in Kompong Cham City, by raising up and equipping local church leaders and laity to model the love and restoration of Jesus Christ through word and deed.” This mission is worked out in day to day life in the following ways:
- Sunrise: A creative partnership with MSF which cares for those with HIV/AIDS through Home Based Care and a six bed hospice.
- Community Education: Teaching Domestic Violence, Peace Building, Basic Literacy, and HIV/AIDS Awareness in the local prison, hospital, orphanage, and public schools.
- Volunteer Mobilization: The heart of our ministry. Nearly 100 volunteers visit our Home Based Care clients, orphans, and other marginalized persons in our community.
- Hands of Hope: Provides viable home based employment for former commercial sex workers and other persons in need in our community.
Past Ministry
1) Phnom Penh Bible College
During the Spring of 2006, Anita assisted teaching a class on Holistic ministry. Fall of 2006 she taught a course on the Biblical View of Poverty and our Response. The purpose of the class was to help emerging Christian leaders to gain a deeper understanding of Jesus’ heart for the poor, learn about the complexity of poverty, and seek ways to mobilize the church in response. (Check out the video or the newsletter.)
2) Beng Trabek High School
Danny served as a teacher trainer with the Biology Department of a public high school in Phnom Penh for nearly 2 years. He sought to develop the teachers’ scientific knowledge and understanding through dialogue and basic instruction. The goal was to raise the quality of instruction for the current generation of students and the generations to come. (Check out the video or the newsletter.)
Ministry Concepts
These are ideas that we had that, for various reasons, have yet to become reality. We’ve kept them here because they symbolize much of what is in our hearts.
1) Theological Education by Extension (TEE)
Many Cambodian pastors and lay leaders have little formal education. TEE is a ’seminary on wheels’, offering rich Biblical education for those where Bible school is either non-accessible or impractical. We both have been trained to teach TEE and hope to eventually help develop an expanded TEE curriculum. (Check out the video.)
2) The Jeremiah Project
This 2 semester mentorship program, sponsored by InnerCHANGE, seeks to help young Christian leaders develop their spiritual disciplines, discover God’s plan for their life, and gain practical experience ministering among the poor. (Check out the video or the newsletter.)
